  Chapter 1

  5 weeks earlier

My hands moved for me, taking on a mind of their own as they sluggishly grabbed hold of the large brown paper bag of grocery. I was dog-tired but my mind had forced me to unconsciously exit the car and walk up to the front door in a daze. Work had me in almost a zombie like state for the past two weeks, ending my days as late as 8pm. The microwave assured me that it was indeed late displaying the time as 7:55pm. That was in fact early for me though, almost considered record timing in my book.

The summer rain beat against the outside of the house like it was threatening to break in. Removing my shoes at the door, I walked up the stairs, discarding my drenched skirt suit one by one. All I wanted to do was take a nice hot bath and crawl into bed thanking God for the weekend. In the bathroom, I plugged the tub and turned on the hot water sprinkling Epson Salt into the flow to help soothe my aching bones when I got in.

The house was silent. It wasn't uncommon for me to be there alone, even though I had been married for five years. Trent, my husband, worked just as hard as I did but we still managed to keep it together. This past week we've been going through a rough patch of bullshit but as long as our love was strong that was all that mattered. Besides, hard work was the only way we were going to be able to afford the upscale lifestyle we were accustomed to.

Walking in my black bra and panties, I picked up my soaked suit laying it across the banister. To my immediate left, I could hear voices of which I only recognized one of them. I entered my large bedroom dropping the clothes to the floor. In the darkness, I looked over to the bed and realized the sheets were moving wildly. With one flick of the light switch, everything became so much clearer.

“Trent, you fucking asshole,” I yelled charging for the bed and peeling back the white satin sheets.

“Sorry, Trent’s in the master bath just getting out of the shower. But if you leave a message I’ll be sure to let him know you stopped by.” Some random bitch laid there naked and smiling like she was high off dope.

“Stopped by? Bitch this is my house. I pay for this shit up in here. Who the hell are you?”

“I’m your husband’s muse. I'm the one he has on speed dial whenever he needs a touch of inspiration, boo boo.” The smirk forming on her face almost compelled my hand to slap it off. But my beef wasn’t with that hoe.

“Trent! Trent, get your ass out here.”

“Hey, baby. You’re home early.” He wrapped one bath towel around his waist while using another to dry his arms. “I wasn’t expecting you home so soon.”

“What the fuck do you mean? What the fuck is this, Trent? Don’t act all calm and cool like this shit is acceptable cause you've got to be out of your damn mind.”

“Who says it's unacceptable? Look, you’re making a big deal out of nothing, Kel. She’s just a girl and you’re my wife. End of story.” He leaned in kissing me on my cheek as the stupid big tit heffa's hysterical laughter filled the air.

He walked out of the room headed downstairs. As much as I wanted to put a bullet in both of them, I valued my life more than that. I wasn’t about to go to jail for his dumb ass. Instead, I followed him quickly rushing down the stairs and into the kitchen. He cracked open a small glass bottle of grape juice taking small sips and keeping one eye on me at all times. He was studying me, as I was he, trying to figure out what the hell was he thinking.

“Trent, I refuse to let you disrespect me in my own house under the roof where we started our vows. I demand a fucking a
nswer.” I slammed my hand on the marble kitchen counter hard as the sting of it traveled up my arm.

“See, that’s that shit there that I’m talking about. You don’t want a husband. You want a kid you can boss around and demand things from. I’m not your fucking child, Kelly.” His rage was unusual. He had never gotten that angry about anything before. “My life doesn’t revolve around you, so either you get with the program or you’re gonna be left behind doll face.”

“If you think you’re gonna just cheat on me and get away with it—“

“You’ll what? Divorce me? Take everything we own? I think we both know a little better than that, Kelly. I think you ought to let this go.” He walked around me with his juice in hand and a slight smirk on his face.

“No, I will not let this go. You will tell me what the hell is going on.” Before I knew it I pulled his arm causing him to stumble back a bit. "Why are you acting like this?"

“Fine, you want to know what’s going on so badly, I’ll tell you. I saw you a few days ago at a bar with a guy. His back was turned to me through the window but your face was plain as day. The next day you did the same thing and you were practically jumping on his dick with all the laughing and hand holding y'all were doing. This, after you lied and told me that you were working late,” Trent huffed. “Working late my ass.”

"What the fuck? How'd you know I've been going to the bar after work? You've got GPS tracking on me or some shit?"

"Naw, but I know that truck anywhere. I should since I bought it. You thought you could play but you were dead wrong. I'm about to show you how the game goes."

“Baby, that wasn’t what you thought it was. Why didn’t you just come to me and ask me?” I tried to caress his arm but he pulled back crudely. "I swear your insecurities be blowing me sometimes."

“Ask the guarded princess about anything and get a straight answer? Naw, cause all you would’ve done was lied and you know it, Kelly.” Trent slammed the juice bottle down on the counter so hard that I thought it would break.

I couldn’t believe how angry he was over a simple misunderstanding that could have been cleared up in a few measly questions. He was always the one to quickly jump to conclusions but what he saw the other day was completely innocent. At least I think it was. He needed to know that but the expression toted on his face told me that he wasn’t exactly interested in listening now.

"Okay, baby just calm down. I understand where you're coming from, I should've told you I was going there, but trust me on this. You're wrong. I wasn't cheating." I tried to plead my case.

"So I guess that kiss between you two wasn't cheating either, huh?" His face told a story I surely wasn't in the mood to hear.

"Trent, you have no idea what the hell you’re talking about. You don't know what you saw."

"It doesn't matter. If you want to leave, then leave. Otherwise, this is what I'm gonna be doing from here on out. I'm gonna do me and get my motherfuckin' rocks off, live my life while I'm young," He smiled as if it were all a joke to him.

  "And me?"

"Shit, you do what you want. You can file for divorce or deal with it. It’s your choice."

"Wait, who said anything about divorce? Aren't we gonna try and work this out? I'm saying, don’t you wanna at least try?" I felt as if I had put my heart on the line, opening up and becoming vulnerable and it was something that I wasn’t prepared to experience.

I stood there staring into what was left of his soul. I tried to reach for it with my heart in hopes that his would reach back. This man was not just any old dude that I was dating, he was my husband and the man whose child I had hoped to have one day. His flesh was my flesh and his pain was mine as well. Discernment shone across my face as I fought back tears that I didn't want him to see fall.

Trent's face was solemn. It was impossible to read. My palms became sweaty as the dreaded feeling of fear and rejection overcame me. Then as he turned heading back for the staircase, he laughed almost as sinisterly as the devil could. At that point, I felt nothing but humiliation. He was treating me like I was one of these hoes on the street, when he knew I was worth much more than that.

"Let me explain..." It was the only thing I could think to say as my bottom lip quivered.

He only continued laughing but turned back passing my sorrowful pitiful display, heading back to the refrigerator. This time he pulled out a Bud Light cracking it open with ease. He wouldn't listen. It was clear that he was only interested in making me look like a fool, the fool that I was for wanting to remain bonded to a man such as he.

Rage filled my adrenaline as it pumped eagerly through my veins. My eyes blinked uncontrollably as if I were trying to get something off of my lashes. My heart pounded harder than thunder could roar. I loved him so much and he was acting as if I never mattered one single cent to him.

The fresh scent of Irish Spring filled my nose as he stepped closer to me on his way back to the stairs. Before I could blink, my hand had grabbed the glass grape juice bottle off the counter, clucking him upside the head. He hit the floor flopping his skin on the kitchen tile. I waited a few seconds for him to get up and chase me around the house trying to beat my ass. You can't hit a man with that much power and not expect any kind of repercussions to come behind it. But when he just laid there stagnant, immobile, I realized I had fucked up much more than I originally thought.

"Trent, baby. Get up, baby. Trent." My voice was hollow from nervousness.

"Oh my God. What did you do to him?" The little skank that had been lying in my bed had come down, observing the scene from the last step of the staircase.

It was then that I noticed the broken bottleneck in my hand along with the blood dripping from it. There were particles of glass everywhere around Trent's body. I had gone too far and as I hyperventilated and panicked, he moaned groggily.

"Aye, you take your five dollar ass back upstairs to get your shit and get the fuck out of my house. And, if you think about speaking to anybody about this or even being here, I swear I will hunt you down and kill you and your fucking family myself. You got that? Do you want that bitch?" I snarled like a hungry hyena.

"No, no." The girl shook her head in fear before darting back up the stairs out of sight.

I reached for my cell, dialing 911 slowly wondering just what I would tell them when they answered the other end. As I placed the phone to my ear, Trent's little whore came running back down the stairs past us and out the door in a flash. I smiled as the operator came on the line, grateful that neither he nor I would ever see that tramp’s ass again.

  "911, what's your emergency?"

"Yes, I need an ambulance to 310 Sheridan Rd. I just got home from work and found my husband lying on the floor unconscious. A girl just ran from my house and it looks like she hit him with a glass bottle." The terror in my voice was shockingly convincing. I could’ve won a fucking Emmy Award for best actress of conjuring up real emotion at the drop of a hat.

"Okay ma'am. Help is on the way, alright? I want you to stay on the line with me."

"Okay but my phone is going dead. So if I lose ya..." I hung the phone up on purpose and turned it completely off.

I needed to make sure that the crime scene looked accurate before the police swarmed the inside of my house. I set the neck of the bottle down a few feet from his head in the mist of the rest of the debris. When that was perfect, I moved to the kitchen sink washing my hands thoroughly with dishwashing liquid before returning by his side.

"Kelly. Kelly, why’d you hit me?" Trent gurgled rather loudly.

"I didn't, your little bitch did. That's the story we're sticking to. Do you understand? That's the fucking story." I coached as I kneeled down my his side watching him turn from his belly to his back.

  "What the fuck?"

"I'm sorry, Trent. I would never hurt you, you know that, but you’ve hurt me too. All I ever wanna do is love you. Can't we just be happy again, baby?" I begged as the ambulance lights flashed outside of my door.

  Present Day: The Game

"I'm nervous, Kelly. Are you sure this shit is going to work?" Olivia stood staring at herself in the full body rectangular shaped mirror on the doors of my bedroom closet. "I'm literally shitting bricks."

"You're not literally shitting anything. That would imply that actual bricks are flowing out of your butt. Now if that happens let me know so I can turn your ass in for a check, okay," Samantha crooned as she readjusted her seemingly store bought double d tits in her pink V-neck cashmere sweater.

"Oh shut up, Sam. Nobody cares that you finished college top of your class, smarty pants.” Briana sucked her teeth before checking the mirror to make sure her firm butt looked perfect in her skinny jeans. “I’ve been hitting the gym hard for weeks preparing for this shit. If Kelly thinks this is going to work, then I trust her and you should too.”

“Thanks Bri,” I said smiling over at her nervously.

Depression had been my thoughts of late. Since Trent forgave me for hitting him in the head, our marriage hasn't been the same. It was more like he hated me. Everyday, I tried to act hard like I didn't give a fuck even though I knew I did. That day was a drastic turning point for the both of us. So, after careful calculation and manipulation of my friends, I concocted this plan. It was devious but that was the furthest thing from my mind. It needed to be done. I was not about to accept the loss of him, the very man I love so deeply.

We had decided a few weeks ago that this was the only way and now that the day was here, I was having just as many reservations as Olivia. Each of us had our own reasons for wanting to go through with it and though they may have differed, the goal was the same, save what we had built. I didn’t know if it was the butterflies in my stomach or the seven glasses of red Moscato that I had drank that was making me feel queasy, but either way it was now or never. I unearthed an oversized pink striped Victoria’s Secret bag from underneath my bed and sat it on the bed as my hand dug through it. I reached in pulling out and handing each of them a pink plush fleece long robe with matching pink slippers.
